1Corinthians contains several references to Passover and each of The Festivals that follow GOD's Salvation Plan. Specifically let’s look at The Wave Sheath Offering:

The Main Activity involves the Resurrection of JESUS Christ and HIS ascension into Heaven on The First (of The 7 Weeks Count toward Pentecost.) We should look more closely at the 7 verses in the New Testament which have the phrase 'First of The Sabbaths' or as the KJV translates it 'first (day) of the week.'

The First of The 7 Weeks

As we can see in the following 7 verses, The Passover and High Sabbath Assemblies continued in The New Testament.  But there is a marked difference - The Formalities of The Law have been replaced by a New Covenant work and rest within the heart and mind of Believers. Yes, Paul continues to observe and instruct Christian principles from The High Sabbath Days. The Feast of Weeks is the one we will look at now.

The Feast of Weeks included the 7 Sabbaths starting after the weekly Sabbath – which always fell within the 7 Days of Unleavened Bread. The First Day of the Pentecost (50 day) Count always fell on The First Day of The Week, and the Last or 50th day always was observed on The First Day of The Week (Sunday.) The 50th Day was The Feast of Pentecost.

Notice that all 7 New Testament Verses which refer to this interval DO NOT contain the word “day” in the original language. In the Old Testament, this interval was called “The Feast of Weeks.” Exo 34:22, Deu 16:10,16, 2Chr 8:13.

Of course, there are two important events which take place on Sunday (according to the Plan set out in Leviticus 23). The Wave Sheath Offering of Barley symbolizing The Resurrection of JESUS. And the Day of Pentecost also was always on Sunday. The Barley Harvest was a hard day of work for each farmer, but Pentecost was a Sabbath Rest.

See the Following Diagrams which show these 7 verses:

Four of them deal directly with the activities of The LORD JESUS as HE arose from The Tomb. (Mat 28:1, Luk 24:1, Joh 20:1, and Mar 16:1-2.)

Later on, John 20:19 occurs after Sunday has concluded, when JESUS first meets with the 11 Disciples.

The last two verses deal with Gentile Churches.

Acts 20:6 shows Paul continues to celebrate Unleavened Bread in Gentile Churches.

1Cor 16:2 where Paul requests Gentiles to gather Barley for Jews in Jerusalem.

It is very important for us to see in these last two verses, Paul is observing and teaching The Feast Days to Gentile Churches.

There are 70 verses in the New Testament which mention ‘Sabbath’.  28 of these verses deal with The Feast Day Sabbaths. (See the web site  www.SeventhDayChurchOfGOD.net for details.) And 7 of the 28 contain the phrase ‘first of the Sabbaths’ or ‘first of the weeks.’ The following Diagrams deal with these 7 verses.
