THUS: Daniel’s 21 day fast in Chapter 10, is a pattern of the need to wait for the prophecy revealed in 9:24-27.

Daniel has been told in Chapter 9 about the 7 Weeks wait for the rebuilding of the walls and The Temple in Jerusalem. Daniel has seen the end of the 70 Years of Captivity in Babylon. This might seem to be the end he was waiting for, but there is yet another delay of 49 years until the return and rebuilding process under Nehemiah.

The Kingdoms had been foretold in Daniel Chapters 2, 4, 7 & 8:

Babylon   Media and Persia   Greece   Roman

Daniel in Chapter 10, is waiting in service while in Babylon. He waits until the Kingdom of Babylon is replaced by Media. Then he sees the Persian takeover by Cyrus the Persian. We see in Nehemiah 2:1 that Nehemiah is stirred to return to Jerusalem and gains the blessings and support of Cyrus King of Persia. This all must fit into the 49 years of waiting until the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem, etc. as foretold in Daniel 9:25....

Daniel Chapter 11 is a summary of this interval. Where Daniel is reminded about the Kings which will continue in the Persian Kingdom until Alexander The Great defeats Persia. We see in 10:13, 10:20, and all of Chapter 11 – That God has angelic forces in charge of the Kingdoms of this world.

Chapter 11 provides many details about the warfare and intrigue of those Kings involved after Alexander and the division of his kingdom into 4 parts. Antiochus Epiphanes takes Jerusalem through intrigue. The Maccabees take back Jerusalem. The Kings of The North and The South battle until Rome conquers Egypt and the whole region. Even the Herodian kings are revealed before Jesus comes to be slain at the end of The 70 Weeks....

Chapter 12 reveals the goal of God’s Plan for The Jews – In JESUS The Messiah - The King of The Jews.... and HIS coming authority over all mankind. First to rule in the hearts of those who accept HIS Spiritual Kingdom. Then to Rule as KING of Kings for eternity....
