The Repeated Promise of The New Covenant
But Here 10:16-
Also the Repeated Phrases Central to Atonement: in Chapter 4 and in 10...
‘entering in through Jesus’ 4:10, 10:19 ‘Let us approach with boldness.’ 4:16, 10:19, 10:22
‘We have a great high priest.’ 4:14, 10:21 ‘Let us hold fast our confession.’ 4:14, 10:23
These phrases tie the ideas of Rest and The Day of Atonement. ‘The Sabbatismos 4:9, and The Day Approaching’10:25....
10:25 ”Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” KJV
The warning in this section – the need to Remember The Sabbath Day (and of Atonement )-
These matters once marked by annual Festivals should now be marked in our Hearts and Minds with The Freshness of our most recent visit to The Throne.... Though the pattern is yearly and deals in the O T with Feasts and harvests, The N T shows us a new and living way. An active and ongoing relationship between Believers and The Family of GOD.
Repeat of The Dire Warning Heb 6:6 and 10:26
Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
10:26 ”For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.” KJV
First we must believe that GOD does not desire to ‘devour’ believers -
The adversaries we face are The World, The Flesh and the devil. These must be overcome and The ONE Who is our LORD and Savior will “make a quick work and cut it short in Righteousness.” HE will ‘remove the dark covering from This World.’ Babylon will be exposed and HE has given us The Spirit to convict us of sin, righteousness and judgment. We see in Ch. 12, how we are submitted to The Father and HE deals with us in HIS Love and Mercy. This life is short and there is no promise of long life ahead until we are resurrected and these bodies are left behind.
10:28 -
10:35 ”Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. 38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.” KJV see also Rom 1:17 and Gal 3:11
