These times evidently did fit the events in The History of The Maccabees in 163 BC. When they were able to defeat Antiochus Epiphanes and cleanse The Temple. The Dedication Feast of Hanukkah was established to celebrate this cleansing. The Jews were able to cleanse The Temple and celebrate a belated Feast of Tabernacles. Jesus attended one of these celebrations in John 10, but He was not welcomed....
The interval between 163 BC and 63 BC was the only interval in the 490 years when The Jewish People were able to rule themselves in The Holy land. In 63 BC, Rome conquered The Nation of Israel and put The People back under Gentile Rule once again.
The New Testament setting continues to show the struggle for freedom which The People undergo. Jesus came to set His People Free but His Kingdom is not of this world....
