In 1:20-32 Paul presents three Basic Problems:

  1. Rejecting GOD and choosing Idolatry 1:21-23  – To Worship creation rather than The Creator 1:23-25

  2. Changed God’s Truth into a Lie 1:25 (reprobate minds 1:28)

  3. Sexual  deviancy 1:26-27

Paul Lists their rebellion against The 10 Commandments  1:29-2:3

  1. Haters of God 1:30   2. Knowing God’s Judgment they do wrong 1:32  3. Covenant breakers, not persuadable 1:31 4. Knowing the judgment of God 1:32 they judge 2:1-3 but do the same evil things  5. Disobedient to parents 1:30  6. Murder 1:29, Unmerciful 1:31 7. Fornication 1:29, Without natural affection 1:31 8. You judge others 2:1-3 but commit the same offences  9. Whisperers, deceit 1:29, backbiters 1:30  10. Full of envy, Covetousness 1:29

Notice in the listing of the 10 Commandments, I listed false judgment in two of the commands: #4 - Referring to their restlessness and     #8 - Stealing justice from others or from GOD....

Judgment can evidently be good or bad.

Paul ties this kind of “judgment” with the other wrongs he listed previously. Note that Paul inferred The 10 Commandments in his first 16 verses and he did so in 1 thru 10 order (he does this many times in his other books as well.) He keeps the decalogue in order to enable the reader to keep track of what he is doing in his longer discourses.... However; when he lists several sins together as in Rom 1:29-31, he does so in a mixed way. This is done quite often by Paul, by Jesus and others in the N T.... see my Website Section on the ‘NT Commands.’

There are Several Key Words Paul uses in Romans:

 These express Three Main Ideas:

       1. Righteousness = Being Right-Righteous and  Just come from the same Greek Root Word

Just, Justified, One who does Right Righteousness in Greek= dikaiosyne

Just in Greek= dikaios, Justify in Greek= dikaioo, Justification in Greek= dikaiosis

       2. Faith = trust in God

Believe, to have faith, trust -Faith and believe come from the same Greek Root Word

Faith in Greek= pistis, Believe in Greek= pisteuo

      3. Law = Legal Description of Right or Wrong  Law in Greek= nomos

Judge, Judgment - Result of or Reward for, doing Right or Wrong

Judge in Greek= krino, Judgment in Greek= krima

Wrath, Anger, Destructive Result against wrong Wrath in Greek= orge

The Three Groups above each relate to the other two Groups....

These ideas reflect the Main Theme of Romans: “The Justice of God” In fact, the words ‘righteousness, just, justified, judge and judgment,’ etc. are closely related in Greek.
