Baptized in 1 Corinthians
Paul deals with Baptism mostly in the First Chapter of 1 Corinthians.
1 Corinthians 1:13–17 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. 16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
The questions Paul deals with: “Is Christ Divided?” and “Was Paul crucified for you?”
The issue Paul is centering on is Salvation and The Passover Feast.... Evidently some in The Church were concerned about Baptism:
– When should someone be Baptized? – Soon after a person accepts Jesus as Savior and Lord. But Baptism is not part of salvation. Baptism is not even part of Unleavened Bread. Baptism is evidently an act of obedience and submission to The Lordship of Jesus as He is Head of The Body of all Believers. – Not just the local church nor any one denomination.
– Who should Baptize believers? – Anyone who is already saved. Paul refuses to accept responsibility for baptizing. Paul has been appointed as Apostle to The Church at Corinth, but that authority does not include Baptism.
– With whom should we be baptized? – Any group of believers in the area. Whether one witness -
– What Feast Day does Paul seem to identify with Baptism? – None specifically but The Day of Trumpets is connected with announcing and gathering The Body of Believers.... This is evident also in 1Corinthians from the verses Paul mentions Baptized.... 1Cor 1:13-
1 Corinthians 10:2 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
1 Corinthians 12:13 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Paul introduces The Fall Feast Days in the last few chapters of 1Corinthians. He does not point to any one Day or Feast on which believers are to be baptized.... But all the verses mention being connected with a group of believers.... Paul mentions Baptism several times in 1Corinthians but he does not connect baptism with any Feast Day. This reinforces the activity and not the ceremony or the big event some groups give to Baptism....
