Colossians   and The Day of Trumpets

Colossians was written by Paul to reveal GOD’s Salvation Plan to The Gentiles. In the Old Testament, there were essentially two pillars Given to Moses:

  1– The Ten Commandments

  2– The Seven Harvest Celebrations

The Little Book of Colossians presents both of these great doctrinal pillars to The New Testament Church. Paul designed Colossians around the 10 Commandments and he instructed The Gentile Believers to Celebrate The Salvation Plan of GOD which is pictured in The Harvest Seasons.

Colossians was written after Acts 15 had established The Welcomed Freedom of Salvation to The Gentiles. After we have seen how Galatians was written by Paul to demonstrate how Acts 15 would be implemented in The Gentile Church, it may seem surprising that Paul uses The 10 Commandments as an outline in both Galatians and in Colossians. (Refer to my Booklet on Galatians.)

The Diagram at the right demonstrates the basic design of The 10 Commandments in Colossians. We will expand on each of These Commandments as we go through Colossians Chapter and Verse.

The 10 Commandments are each covered by Paul in the same order they were given to Moses in Exodus 20 and in Deuteronomy 5.

As can be seen in this Diagram, The New Covenant looks at The 10 Commandments in a New way. These are written to fit the New Heart and New Mind which is given to Believers by The Holy Spirit at The New Birth.

To understand each of The 10 more fully, we must look at each of the times they are discussed in The New Covenant. For details, refer to the section in this website which deals with these many New Covenant References.

The 4th Commandment which deals with The Sabbath Day is used by Paul to discuss The Day of Trumpets for Gentile Believers. This Day is one of the 7 Annual ‘Holy Convocations’ GOD revealed in Chapter 23 of Leviticus. The Day of Trumpets is the 4th ‘Holy Convocation’ of the 7 listed in Lev. 23. Also in the book of Galatians, Paul uses the 10 Commandments as an outline and The Day of Trumpets is an important theme in Galatians as well. Thus there are Two New Testament Books which cover these important topics.

The Feasts of Passover and Pentecost were fully implemented in The New Covenant by the time Paul began to write. The Passover (and The Feast of Unleavened Bread) are dealt with by Paul in 1 Corinthians and The Feast of Pentecost was fully implemented in The Book of Acts. The next Holy Convocation would be The Day of Trumpets. The Feast Day of Trumpets is the central Theme in Colossians Chapter 2. We will get to that idea as we go through Colossinas.
