The Text in Hebrews Chapters 3 & 4 refers to the ‘Day’ and ‘People’ of OT History. -
Chapters 4:18 thru 6:1
V – Commandment: 5 -
Honor The Father and Bless The Church Family who nurture the young believers
-
– Why should we honor The Father? If we are His Family, we should Love and Respect our Father. We should desire to build up HIS Kingdom by doing as HE instructs us.
The Leviticus 16 details, The O. T. day of Atonement. These are great shadows of The Reality we see in Hebrews. But in Lev 16, we see no personal gifts (as are common in the world today)-
Hebrews does not state the specifics of The Date and Time JESUS presented Himself in Heaven, but Hebrews clearly shows the O.T. types and The Perfect Work JESUS does. There is also no limit on when we can come boldly to The Throne....i.e. Not just one day per year.
Heb 5:6 You are a Priest for the age.... seems to indicate the temporary limits of flesh and the immortal undefiled bodies we will be given at The Resurrection....
5:1 The office of The High Priest is discussed.
5:6 Melchizedek is used to open the door into JESUS’ High Priestly Office. Moses is also presented as a foreshadow of faithfulness.8:5 BUT JESUS is the More Perfect Model and the fulfilment of Atonement as we see introduced in Hebrews. 4:14 thru 5:10
Hebrews often points to the constant need for Maturity in Believers and for “working out our salvation, for it is GOD, Who works in us to do HIS Will.” Php 2:12 also 1Joh 2:12-
Chapter 6:
V – Commandment: 5 Honor Father and Mother
-
The result in The O.T. was futility and we never see Israel come to Perfection. The failure was proven in every generation in The O.T. The end result is death. Yes, some Judges, some Prophets and some Kings did somewhat right in the eyes of The LORD but there were many others who did not find rest. The People needed a New Covenant and a New relationship with GOD.
