The Beatitudes in Matthew 5 can be seen in Two ways:

1. They can be divided into 10 eras of Biblical History as seen in the upper diagram.

2. If we include verse 12 ‘rejoice and be exceeding glad’ as the 10th Beatitude, they can be seen as a commentary on The 10 Commandments.

See the list at the Right and the notes at the bottom….

      1- Only 1 GOD        2- No Idols         3- GOD’s Name      4- Keep Sabbath      5- Honor Parents      7- No Adultery      6- No Murder      8- Do Not Steal      9- No Lies        10- Don’t Covet

Note that Commands  7 and 6  are in reverse order in The Beatitudes.

Several times the New Testament Text can be seen as a commentary on the 10 Commandments and Matthew is a good example of this:

Mat Chapters 1-4 is a basic commentary on the First 3 Commandments.
