   Hebrews Chapter 1, & 2

I & II – Commandments: 1 - There is Only ONE GOD    and  2 - Do Not Worship false Idols

1- GOD has raised up JESUS as HIS Perfect and Beloved SON 1:1-2

2- JESUS is the Perfect Image and Likeness of GOD the Father 1:3 to 3:1

 - Purpose: To reveal JESUS is GOD’s Son. He is better than Angels and HE was Made Perfect by HIS Sufferings - which increases to our ability to relate to JESUS when we come through HIM into Heavenly places to communicate with GOD.

Why The 10 Commandments? GOD set down The 10 Commandments as an outline of What HE wants us to be in HIM, and how we should live to bless one another. (In the O. T., these were written on stone tablets, but in The N. T., these 10 concepts are written in believers’ hearts and minds.)

1:3 ”Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” Here we see a hint of the Atonement aspect of JESUS’ ministry. The Cleansing and Removing (Purging) and HIM being Seated on The Right hand of The Most High. Where HIS ongoing work takes place to help believers find Love and Mercy while HE trains and disciplines us.

1:1 He has spoken to the fathers             (The ‘Father’ is mentioned in Heb 1:5, 3:9, 7:3,

through the prophets                           7:10, 8:9, 12:7 and over 70 times as GOD.)

1:2 He has spoken to us through the Son.

    Heb 1:1–4                    Heb 1:5–13

1:2 Appointed royal heir    1:5 Appointed as Son

1:2 Mediator of the ages    1:8 His throne is for ages

1:3 Has complete authority  1:12 Stable endurance

1:3 Seated at God’s right hand 1:13 Seated at God’s right hand

Heb 2:10 ”For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. 13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.

2:15 ‘HE removed the Fear of Death’ by Resurrection and HE removes religious bondage. These have no hold on us. Some Christians have been excommunicated and put to death by religious people - some who call themselves christian.

2:17 ‘A merciful and faithful High Priest.’ Mercy is from the same base of the word Atonement - the Mercy Covering on The Ark of the Covenant is another O. T. type...
