              Marriage         Ephesians 5:20 to 6:3

20-21 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

This is the background for marriage. Thankful submission one to another.... Then also

22-24  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Wives submit to your Husbands with respect. For you are one with Christ - He loves The Church. Submission means to communicate with one another. Don’t hold back on your love. Join in unity all the more when trouble seems to come.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Loving like Christ is possible, only when He lives in us and when we submit to Him. Think about 1 Corinthians 13 for example, and try to measure yourself against the kind of love God gives to us. Receive His love, and you can give that kind of love.

26-27  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

This love builds us into something beautiful and pure.... a Glorious Bride and Church.

28-30  So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

The wife and husband are ONE Flesh. You are joined together in unity. There must be an attitude of unity, so there is no division!  You are now living together in this marriage.

31-33 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33  Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Lety and John are in Covenant together. This vow separates them as well as it joins them. All others are less because these two are now One. They are joined in unity.

Let’s read on into the next chapter....

   6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. 4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

It is like God is looking right into this situation. The whole family is involved in this marriage. The relationships they have with each other are important for their growth and long life together.

Remember God lives in each of you and He will help you, as you submit to Him and to one another....
