Galatians gives Christians a special view of the nature and makeup of The Church. There are at least 4 Themes which Paul and The Holy Spirit weave into this little book.

1. God's Plan and Timing

2. Dependence on Holy Spirit

      & independence from law

3. The Day of Trumpets

4. The 10 Commandments

Another Page shows how often the concept of 'time' is mentioned in this book.

With respect to the 10 Commandments, the 4th Command is the one which deals with time. We think that Command relates The Sabbath (obviously it does) but in The Bible, we note The 4th Command often deals with time. Even in The 4th Command given to Moses, we see a short historic comment and then the six days of work and the seventh day is set aside for rest.

The weekly cycle is not the only cycle which relates to The Sabbath. There are 7 Months set aside for Harvests and 7 Holy Celebrations. There is a land rest set aside on the Seventh Year, the Jubilee Land Rest and The 7th Millennium and Creation are involved.

The New Testament includes rest and peace in Christ Jesus as well as all of the above O T concepts.

Galatians does not mention The Sabbath even once, but one can see the true nature of Rest, Work and Time are deeply involved.

In 4:10, Paul mentions The Galatian’s were once unbelievers who ‘knew not God.’ These pagans were observing pagan holidays, etc. These are similar to the holidays observed in most pagan cultures. Mankind evidently needs to worship and observe seasons for planting and harvests. These are designed by God to portray His Salvation plan, and thus serve a good purpose when observed according to The Bible.
