The Passover Sacrifice   15:1-20 Jesus is tried by Pilot who asked if He was King? He found no fault with Jesus but the Jews insisted he be put to death. Pilot offered to release one prisoner to them. The Jews demanded Jesus be hung up to die. Pilot had Jesus scourged and mocked.

15:21-23 Jesus is led to Calvary as He bares the post on which He was lifted up. A man named Rufus helped carry the post to Golgotha. Place of the skull. Jesus was nailed and lifted up. HE refused the opium and wine which was used to numb those lifted up lest the shock kill them too quickly. Many lived for 3 days mailed to a cross. Jesus was nailed only to a single post and lived for only 3 hours in darkness.

15:24-26 The Romans divided His garments and gambled for His Robe. Much of Psalm 22 was accurately fulfilled by The Romans and those who despised Him. Pilot added a signpost stating Jesus, King of The Jews written in Hebrew, Latin and Greek.

15:27-32 Jesus is mocked and ridiculed.

15:33-37 Jesus speaks while it was dark. MY God, MY God, why have You forsaken Me? after Jesus had tasted the bitter cup of God's wrath. HE tasted the sour wine. Jesus cried with a loud voice and breathed His last. (other Gospels list the 7 statements Jesus made while lifted up to die.

15;38-41 The Temple is torn in two, from top to bottom. No one could safely enter The Temple from that day on as the roof was torn apart. The women looked on as Jesus was taken down and entombed.

 15:42-47 Joseph of Arimathea received permission to take Jesus down and entomb His body.

16:1-8 The Resurrection Women discover the empty tomb and an angel speaks to them while it was yet dark. He was lifted up and placed in the tomb is Risen. See the place where they laid Him. Go tell His Disciples and Peter. (HE does not appear to the disciples until after the 3rd day, to fulfill what He had said to them.)

16:9-11 Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He cast 7 demons. She had received much and gave her heart to Him.

16:12-13 Then to two disciples toward Emmaus

16:14-18 Then as Sunday had also ended, He appeared to His Disciples. He who believes and is baptized shall be saved. The Greek emphasizes belief (not baptism.)These signs shall follow them who believe. They shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. (James 5 gives more detail.)

16:19-20 Jesus ascends into Heaven.HE was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
